Paul Mpagi Sepuya
Sep 12 - Oct 17 2020 - 29 days left
The exhibition is comprised of works made between 2017 and 2018 from a range of ongoing projects. From early photographs set in his bedroom to long-term bodies of work grounded in the photographer’s studio, Paul Mpagi Sepuya's practice is oriented around photographic portraiture’s relationships and dynamics, its settings and materials. The camera and artist are not always visible but always implied, referring back to the self-reflexivity inherent in Sepuya’s practice and the positions and gestures of looking, being seen, and creating scenes that disregard the viewer and emphasize the making, and makers, of a picture. John Coplans
Sep 12 - Oct 17 2020 - 29 days left
The selected works are from John Coplans' well-known self-portrait series in black and white, which he had been developing since the early 1980s. At an age when others have already retired, Coplans revived once again and not only discovered the medium of photography for himself, but also embarked on a journey into the awareness of his own body, the multifaceted nature of his own identity. These are works of vulnerable intimacy that directly move the theme of aging and the transience of the youthful body out of its marginal position within society. Zurich Art Weekend.
