Chile: Memory and the Future
Sep 11 - Oct 11 2023 - 18 days left
It has been almost fifty years since the US-supported coup d’etat in Chile on September 11, 1973. Even a half century later, the after effects are borne within the political and individual bodies of those shattered by that violent rupture. While traumas demand a reckoning with the past, they also require a way forward—a path that is transformative, constructive and, ideally, optimistic. For Chile: Memory and The Future, the work of contemporary Chilean artists living mostly outside of Chile, will offer a glimpse into those visions for how the world is today and how it might be in the future, created with a constant awareness of the long historical reverberations of that moment. Artists: Marisa Cornejo, Alfredo Jaar, Cristobal Lehyt, Felipe Mujica, Iván Navarro & Courtney Smith, Johanna Unzueta, Cecilia Vicuña.
