The South Asian Women’s Creative Collective (SAWCC) is pleased to announce a Call for Submissions for our upcoming visual arts exhibition, Encounters, curated by Grace Aneiza Ali and presented at Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, April 1, 2021 through May 15, 2021. Theme: After one of the most tumultuous years in modern history, How Are You? asks visual artists to submit artwork made in 2020. The visual arts can express both the individual artist’s voice and—as a collection— express a society’s collective voice. The How are You? exhibit aims to share recently-made artworks as a source of empathetic processing for the public’s wellbeing. Themes may include, but are not limited to: loss, growth, fear, resiliency, current events, unity, etc. A range of artworks from literal to abstract will be considered. This is both a physical Open Call & supplemental Online Exhibition that will open at The Royal @ The Royal Society of American Art on December 18th. Hibernation is a state of minimal activity, metabolic depression, and a natural self defense that allows for survival during the harshness of the winter months. In the last few month we find ourselves in difficult times and it has forced us to retreat into our studios and focus on our work. This exhibition is about how slowing down has effected our work, selves, and community. Artists selected for the exhibition will be included on the RSOAA website and social media platforms. In 2020 the KZNSA embraces the circular economy, aimed at eliminating waste and reducing the consumption of finite resources. The KZNSA invites proposals for the widest interpretation of this theme, from second-hand (pre-loved) items that simply need a new home, to repair and renovation specialists (clothes darning; shoe repair; furniture refitting) who would like to set up work spaces in the gallery. KZNSA encourages submissions from artists interested in re-purposing material to create new works, or creative repairs and reconfigurations that celebrates damages and repairs. Please bring in work with a delivery note 10-13 November 2020 to be part of the opening on 19 November. We will take top-ups of work until 8 January 2021.

There are seven basic properties of light. Reflection, Refraction, Diffraction, Interference, Polarization, Dispersion and Scattering. Properties of visible light are intensity, propagation direction, frequency or wavelength spectrum. Light can be conceptual: have you seen a light at the end of a dark tunnel? SaveArtSpace is proud to partner with Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) to bring more public art to Denver, CO, launching March 2021.

SAS & CPAC present In A Time Of Change, as we move through a global pandemic, public art continues to allow us to identify and address our struggle with the hope of finding new, positive paths forward.

While we social distance, we are still able to come together through the act of art making and imbue spaces with our creativity. With this immense time of change, we look to our community of artists and invite you to submit work that will be on billboards in Denver for the 2021 Month of Photography Festival.

We are looking for images that represent change for you and the ways you are documenting current cultural movements, including social justice, climate crisis, and more. Curated by Samantha Johnston and Benjamin Rasmussen.
